What exciting items have you found lately? I went to another town today and spent a whole $16. I found a set of 4 Dorthy Thorpe Roly Poly silver rim "Mad Men" glasses that have been selling form $10 to $25 each. A vintage metal wall hanging fan with an oriental bird. 8 different vintage clothes items for $8. A bunch of odd vintage items cheap. And a Mary Lillian Maiden-Nesset Sunny Clown Teaching Doll that I know nothing about but it was interesting. I tried to research it and all I come up with is a patten in the 1980s. There is an original price tag of $40. So now ........take pictures.........list and wait to make my first million!

Hey Lois,
The roly poly glasses are really a great find.
I really ought to stop buying and just concentrate on selling the stuff I've already got - but I saw a yard sale sign today and stopped, of course.
I bought an unusual figural table lamp with a woman and dog or wolf, I'm not sure, I have to take a closer look at it. And a little red wagon/cart like thing. Just a decorative thing that you could sit flowers in.

Great Scores! Wow. I have been listing stuff from auctions lately. Tons of vintage Jewelry that has really rocked my world. Bracelets have been selling really well. I have sold Brooches and Pins for a while so no surprise there, but the bracelets just seem so... I don't know... not particularly wonderful.
One did sell to a TV movie company in Burbank CA. They are working on a movie about Paul Lind right now. I can't wait to watch it so see if the bracelet they bought makes the cut.

Hey Isn't that fun when you sell something that is going to be in a movie. We have had some antiques in the past that got sold to movie prop people.
I took a peak and you really have been selling a lot of jewelry! What is your secret??

Linda,
After reading this thread I took a look at your sales, too. I was impressed by the vintage purse sales and it reminded me that I bought a box lot of purses at an auction a few months back, I need to get them listed.

Purses are steady seller for me. Though one just got returned. She felt it was less than perfect, which of course it is. Listing said so. Purses I hunt at Goodwill and Salvation Army. Did buy a 50 piece lot once. SO-so... no real finds, like Lois's hat!
I used to sell shoes more, but way too many returns for me.
My "secret"for jewelry is going to the auction and buying vintage jewelry. We live in what was once the jewelry capital of the world until the 90s when it all came tumbling down and the work went to China or Guam or??
So one at a time old manufactures and the jobbers who worked for them, sell out of their old stock. For me to find them they either are at auction or bits and pieces at yard sales.
Coro, Trifari and many many others were all located either in RI or Attleboro MA. Precious few left.
BUT my very favorite is Antique Victorian and Edwardian. I have bracelet up now on eBay. Can't believe that it hasn't sold yet.
I almost took it down yesterday to keep it.
Believe it or not, I got this in a box lot at the last auction! LOVE this auction!

I love box lots in general. Remember the perfume bottle/vanity lot I mentioned on a different post? I paid $25 and so far have sold about $110 worth out of it - I'm going to list a few more pieces tonight.

I love jewelry also I wish we had an auction house here like back in MN.
I used to buy gold jewelry at is for spot price and box lots also.
I did luck out and found a lady selling 150 pieces of her vintage jewelry. She had it all labeled and priced at an average of $1- each. I asked how much she wanted for all of it and she said $300!!!!
I have already sold 3 pieces for almost $200. There is w&d bracelets and lost of color rhinestone and sterling in it. When I get back to listing I will get more on both ebay and etsy.
My hubby is on a week long trip so I am enjoying having the place all to myself, kind of like a mini vacation for me, so I am not doing too much work right now.
I am jealous that you live up there where all that vintage jewelry was made!

Hey Found some old Little Golden books in a free box at our thrift shop. Most were in bad condition but good for using in a scrapbook. BUT one is the 5 pennies to spend that should sell well. I also found a tile signed Grenot that i am hoping is a Mildred Grenot.

We went up to Lake Havasu today for storage locker auction............there was only 2 and not very good so we didn't get one. BUT We went to the thrift stores there, we had never been to them.....WOW! They have lots of them and lots of great stuff....why have we not been to them before???it is only 65 miles from here............. Anyway I bought lots of vintage fun cocktail glasses from .25 to 1.00. A deluxe Scrabble game for $3 that should sell from $20 to $40. A horse racing game for $2 that I can not find one selling so we will see. 2 long summer dress for me 8 antique metal curtain rods for $15 but one was missing the extension bar so I will sell them in smaller groups, they usually go for at least $10 a piece. A bunch of small nick nacky things cheap. My hubby spent the big money. He bought a Papago Indain basket with rolling logs on it for $79 but knows he can at least double his money or more. He is half Lakota Sioux and really likes the old Native American items......sometimes he does not part with them.............the other half of him is Welsh........a really fun combination. He also bought a German cigarette case for $6, we will see what it sells for. Also a sterling bracelet marked Dina Dotan Israel 925 Hand Made. We are not familiar with her and could only find one little pin for sale by her. I hope I can find some more info. Well we topped the day off with a great Chinese buffet and a quick stop at the casino where we had $10 Tuesday free money for seniors and I left with $40!

The local casino had an auction yesterday. I bought a group of signs - a few smaller ones, that I will try to sell on Ebay and a few larger ones that will go in the antique mall. I also bought 14 lamps. I got them for a good price - but now, I'm looking at one side of my garage that is full of lamps - and I'm thinking why on earth did I buy them. Most of them are too big for me to pack for shipping - so no on line sales. There are some really neat and unusual looking ones - but I can't take them all to the mall at once - got to find some place to store them in the meantime.

I really miss going to auctions. Back in MN we could go to several good ones each week. Here in AZ we would have to drive 100 miles to Phoenix and they aren't very good. I love the old lamps and was getting into them for a while but you are right they are hard to ship and hard to keep from getting chipped also.
